Vizion Kids Director
Direct Report: Associate Pastor
Status: Full-Time
Location: Vizion Church, Charlotte, NC
Position Summary
The Kids Ministry Director is responsible for overseeing the vision, development, and execution of ministry programs for children (typically birth through 5th grade). This includes creating a safe, fun, and spiritually nurturing environment where children can grow in their faith and build lasting relationships with peers and adult leaders. In addition, one of your core responsibilities is to ensure every volunteer is equipped, encouraged, and empowered to lead with confidence and purpose. Lastly, the role extends beyond Sundays. In addition to events, the goal is to walk alongside parents, offering tools and encouragement to help them grow their children’s faith at home.
Key Responsibilities
Cast Vision for Children’s Ministry
- Develop and communicate a clear, compelling vision aligned with the church’s mission.
- Inspire staff, volunteers, and parents to engage in and support the ministry’s purpose and goals.
Volunteer Management
- Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers and leaders.
- Conduct background checks and ensure compliance with child safety policies.
- Provide coaching and ongoing support to team members during services.
- Foster a culture of encouragement, accountability, and discipleship among volunteers.
- Serve as a Direct Report for Team Leads (Bi-weekly or monthly check-ins).
- Ensure childcare is scheduled for all events.
Spiritual Leadership
- Serve as a spiritual role model for children, families, and volunteers.
- Foster a Christ-centered culture that encourages spiritual growth and discipleship for kids.
Strategic Planning
- Set long and short-term goals for the children’s ministry.
- One, three and five year plans for both campuses.
- Evaluate programs regularly to ensure alignment with vision and effectiveness.
Ministry Culture Development
- Create a welcoming and safe environment that reflects the heart of Jesus.
- Model servant leadership and a culture of excellence, joy, and teamwork.
- Collaborate with other ministry leaders to align goals and initiatives.
Curriculum Oversight
- Select biblically sound curriculum that aligns with the ministry’s vision.
- Ensure consistency and creativity across all age groups and services.
- Distribute teaching materials and supplies to classrooms a week in advance.
Parent Engagement & Partnership
- Welcome new families and explain ministry procedures.
- Provide monthly updates on what kids are learning.
- Develop strategies and resources to equip parents as the primary spiritual leaders of their children.
- Communicate regularly with families to build trust and engagement.
- Address parent questions or concerns promptly.
- Be a calming voice in the chaotic lives of families.
Sunday Services & Events
- Plan and oversee weekly Sunday morning kids’ programming, ensuring it is well-organized, staffed, and welcoming.
- Oversee staffing for all Campuses
- Ensure classrooms are set up and resources prepared prior to services.
- Organize and lead special events such as Vacation Bible School (VBS), Christmas/Easter programs, Kids Camp, family events, and outreach activities.
- Will serve as the key liaison between the children’s ministry and other church ministries to ensure that appropriate childcare is available for church events.
- Publish weekly service flow via PCO for each classroom (every Wednesday).
Safety & Security
- Maintain child check-in/check-out procedures.
- Enforce safety protocols (e.g., allergy awareness, emergency plans).
- Monitor classroom environments for safety compliance.
Environment Oversight & Preparation
- Set up and tear down classrooms before and after services.
- Manage tech needs (audio/visual, screens, etc.).
- Supervise classrooms during services.
- Ensure all children’s ministry environments are clean, safe, and welcoming.
- Step in to assist with classroom management or teaching as needed.
- Support volunteers and handle any behavioral or logistical issues.
Administration
- Manage the ministry budget, supplies, and curriculum resources.
- Maintain attendance records and safety protocols.
- Commitment to confidentiality regarding all account records.
- Commitment to strong interpersonal relationships and teamwork.
Qualifications
- A strong, growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Experience in children’s ministry or education, preferably in a leadership role.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to recruit, lead, and motivate volunteers.
- Understanding of child development and age-appropriate teaching methods.
- Agreement with the church’s statement of faith and core values.
- (Preferred) Degree in Children’s Ministry, Education, or related field.
- General knowledge of the Bible
- Mastery of Planning Center Online within the first 90 days.
- General knowledge of ProPresenter and the ability to troubleshoot issues.
Work Schedule & Compensation
- Attend weekly staff & leadership meetings.
- Attend bi-weekly check-ins with your direct report.
- Assist Pastoral Staff with special projects upon request.
- Salary TBD plus full benefits.
Work Week
- Sunday 7AM – 3PM
- Monday 1PM – 5PM (evening meetings)
- Tuesday 9AM – 5PM
- Wednesday 9AM – 5PM
- Thursday 9AM – 5PM
- Friday OFF
- Saturday OFF
